Deadly barn kittens obviously.
Phoebe did her first under saddle buck the other day. Per J:
“She started out great and then one of the kittens decided to jump on top of the stall walls and roll around. Phoebe about had a heart attack and let out a huge buck but then immediately stopped. After that she went right back to work and stayed focused and we did walk trot canter both ways with no problems.”
You guys. I feel like this is such a big step. When a pro says your horse let out a huge buck you know it was no little crow hop. Phoebe was (understandably) spooked and bucked in response, but J stayed on, nothing bad happened and she went right back to work.
It seems like such a small thing but this just made me feel so encouraged. Phoebe is many things but a stupid horse is not one of them. She is smart, a quick learner and oh man does she want to do the right thing, just has the whole crippling anxiety to deal with. Now she knows bucking doesn’t always mean work is over, and she also knows that she isn’t going to get punished for it. She bucked, J ignored her, they moved on.
I’ll just be here, beaming like a proud momma. Keep up the good work Phoebes!!!
